Show Currant Creek Dam and Reservoir An alternative to Currant Creek Dam and Reservoir consists of six diversion dams and feeder pipelines on the natural channels that are tributary to the reservoir " basin. A pipeline, including the Currant Creek Siphon, would be required as part of the Strawberry Aqueduct to connect the outlet of Vat Tunnel with Currant Tunnel. The diversion dams would each impound small reservoirs having 50 acre- feet of active storage capacity to smooth out flows diverted to the aqueduct. These small reservoirs would inundate a total area of approximately 50 acres. The feeder pipelines would have capacities 25 percent greater than the anticipated 25- year flood on each of their respective tributaries. The Strawberry Aqueduct pipeline from Vat Tunnel to Currant Tunnel would be 120 to 126 inches in diameter and 12,500 feet in length. The required construction area would be approximately k5 acres. The feeder pipelines would range from 18 to 5^ inches in diameter, with a combined length of 12,100 feet and a required construction area of approximately 25 acres. Under this alternative the area would be scarred by pipeline, diversion dams, and k miles of rehabilitated road from Layout Creek to Currant Creek Siphon area and 3 miles of access roads to the six diversion dams. The estimated cost of aqueduct pipeline between Vat and Currant Tunnels and six diversion dams and feeder pipelines was comparable to the cost of Currant Creek Dam. Fishing and recreation opportunities associated with the reservoir and environmental considerations were important factors in choosing the Currant Creek Reservoir rather than the pipeline and diversion dam complex. Soldier Creek Dam and Strawberry Reservoir Enlargement Although Soldier Creek Dam is essentially completed, several alternatives which were considered are discussed here. These alternatives include ( l) raising the existing dam and the: existing Indian Creek Dike, ( 2) construction of a higher dam just below the existing dam and a second dam on Indian Creek about a mile south and breeching the existing Indian Creek Dike, and ( 3) constructing the two dams included in the preceding alternative, plus a small dam at the 585 |
