In this compilation we have brought together data concerning the Indians of the Americas that relates to the following broad subject classifications: (1) The Concept of Indigenismo and the Development of Indigenist Movements in the Americas; (2) Definition, Identification, Location and Demographic Information Concerning Indian Groups and Individual Indians; (3) Economic and Community Development among the Indians of the Americas; (4) Educational Programs among the Indians of the Americas; (5) Eealth, Medicine, and Curing Practices among the Indians of the Americas; (6) Religion, the Arts, Artifacts and Museums among the Indians of the Americas. Other compilations include representative Indian biographies, and materials relating to Indian Government and Law. These include extensive bibliographies as well as the article summaries. We have also compiled data concerning the Native peoples by nation, nations, or regions that include article summaries and bibliographies that are useful for comparative studies. Many of the bibliographies and guides that have been prepared by anthropologists and ethnologists approach the study of the native peoples of the Americas by region, and use as their reference point, for purpose of location and identification of Indian groups, the time of first contact, or about 1500.
