Show "the quality oExciting new sets, a few old faces, and the drama of Shakespeare were set on the Kingsbury stage.Replacing the previously scheduled performance of Kathryn Hepburn in "Much Ado About Nothing," Shakespeare's lesser known work, "The Merchant of Venice" was produced in its stead. The production of a Shakespearean work, unless done with great attention, can be very discouraging to audience and actor alike. "Merchant of Venice" was treated on the whole in a very sympathetic manner; and, it came very near being a completely profession looking production. A truly polished performance was marred as a result of the seemingly devil-may-care attitude in the areas of lighting, sound projection, and set production.On the whole, the audience was treated to a good sized portion of Portia facing justice, but the excellent stage designing, and animated acting made viewers forget earlier disappointments.Deep within the bowels of Kingsbury Hall, actors and dancers make up for the various production in the transformation to the "other self."Co-star, Collen Dewhurst as Portia delivers the famous "mercy' speech to the court.Cast and director rehash the fine detailswhich went into making the "Merchant of Venice'one of the Salt Lake theatre's best attraction.253 |
