Show The Utah Symphonyworking on the campus under the University's auspices.Again this year, the Utah Symphony Orchestra's bimonthly concerts were the high points of the cultural season. But the Symphony attempted to reach more people this year. Concerts were held in Ogden, Cedar City, and as far south as Las Vegas, Nevada. The youth concerts and pops concerts were also presented. Under the internationally known direction of Maestro Maurice Abravanel, the Symphony recorded for Westminister, "Judas Maccabeaus" and works by Tchaikovsky and Copland. The Maestro was invited to Germany to conduct the famed Berlin Symphonyâ€"an indication of the regard in which he is held. During the season, Abravanel directed his guest artists in works by Mozart, Brahms, and de Falla. He also programmed Prokofiev, for which he was criticized by many of the more conservative members of the staid audience.'.'-m^BJti*siiâ- IPi11bSMHBHIâ- â- â- â- â- HHMHHiâ- â- VkmhkmIHHhRmAffflHHHHHHWmJI#T/ie Symphony's esteemed conductor, Maurice Abravanel.IHBHBHHHHBflHt?$M.-it-''.•j «|.*^§§§§Milâ- 111 |
