Ray Olpin, and Miss Jesse Perry.In the night, long rectangles of yellow light, sparkling through thousands of square feet of glass, reflecting from the snow and "Baby Boulders" of the parking lots, reveal that the heart of the campus is still surging to the outlying sections of this little city. Everywhere, within the immense modern spaceous-ness, little knots of people laugh, discuss and create swaths of color accented by the imported furniture of bright blues and greens. In the Panorama Room there are soft lights and romance; in the ballroom, music, color, and laughter. Businessmen, alumni, and club women transact, listen and saunter down the halls, while the packs of students converge in the huddle room for coffee and idle chatter. They disperse intermittently to the clattering bowling alleys, clicking ping pong and billiards tables or to casual browsing in front of an immense fire place. In glass rooms, with intensely colored chairs, student governing bodies discuss, plan, and act.In one of the rooms is the desk of Richard Evans, confident, friendly, head of Union Building activities. Rick, the only student chairman of a campus policy making committee, is responsible for all basic decisions concerning the use of the building and its broad social, recreational, and cultural program. Thus, the heart of an expanding campus is governed by those it represents â€" University of Utah students.The student cabinet works within the Board's authority for co-ordination.illDignitaries and members were brought together at this year's formal Union Banquet.22 |
