'4?Utah's Baseball Coach is Pres Summerhays.130the game continued under drizzling skies.Even while the last snows of winter were interrupting the long awaited spring, Coach Pres Summerhays' 1959 baseball squad was battling the erratic March weather in an effort to improve on their strong second place finish of last year.March saw the Utes take advantage of the 7-day break between quarters to migrate to California, where they made preparations for the oncoming Skyline Conference baseball wars. While gaining much-needed experience, the Utes dropped three close games to the Marine Base team, and won their only other contest by a whopping 16-0 score. Almost as soon as they arrived home, though, they were greeted by a tough Aggie crew fromUSU, who had shown a great deal of pre-season promise. But the Redskins unlimbered their bats and raked the entire Utah State pitching staff for a staggering total of 33 runs, as they swept both ends of a Saturday doubleheader to the tune of 16-4 and 17-5. These were the Utes' first league encounters and the wins immediately stamped them as strong favorites for the Western Division title. On the following Friday, however, the Utah team saw their title hopes dimmed as they dropped a close 8-5 decision to their arch rivals from BYU in a contest played at Provo.
