Show IntramuralAthleticsDrawing together greek and independent for athletic competition, the Intramural program leads to better student relations.Under the direction of the Physical Education Department, the Men's Intramural Program was carried off smoothly and with greatly increased participation in 1958-59. Almost every aspect of athletic competition was included. Fall quarter touch football, tennis doubles, volleyball, table tennis and bowling were the main competitive events. Basketball, billiards, skiing, boxing, wrestling, and fencing were the center of attention Winter quarter. Spring quarter the focus was on swimming, tennis, softball, horseshoes, golf, archery, and track and field. Teams participating represented all factions of the University. A grand prize is offered to the group or team that accumulates the most points during the year. At the present time the separate division winners have been informed, but the grand prize winners have not yet been announced. This program gives every student of the University an opportunity to participate actively in the favorite athletic events of his choice. Intramurals are an opportunity to achieve individual physical and mental prowess while developing team spirit, cooperativeness, good will, and rivalry between campus organizations.Intramural swimming winners were from Sigma Phi Epsilon: Colin Clark, Tom Pence, Bud Lentze, and Roger Clark.138"A" Basketball winners were Darryl Eisner, Terry Nofsinger, Monk Bailey, Jerry Cut-shaw, Pete Haun, Jim Mastelato, and Frank Pritchett. |
