But the next day was an entirely different story as the Redskins piled up a big 10-0 lead in the first four innings and coasted to an easy 10-5 win on the home diamond. This left both BYU and Utah tied for the Western Division lead with identical 3-1 records. Next to invade the Ute wigwam were the always tough Grizzlies from Montana U. who, in spite of their poor record, were given the chance of upsetting the home club in at least one of their two games. The Utes, though, would havenothing of it as they swept both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 12-4 and 7-6. With these two victories, the Redskins had virtually assured themselves of at least a second place finish in the tough Western Division race for the Skyline crown. For Pres Summerhays, the versatile Utah baseball coach, it was another highly successful season to tack on to his fine record at the University.
