Show THE FIRST BIG EVENT OF THE YEAR, THE INITIATION OF THE FROSH . . .Welcome Week, green beanies, and freshmenWelcome Week . . . The beginning, the initiation, the shock of a new environment for 2500 entering freshman. And it was a full and, in many ways, a confusing week. Activity was stacked on activity, assembly on assembly. And there were even two programs of initiation running at the same time. AMS and AWS provided sponsors on Hello Walk for some students, while the "dorm-dwellers" met in the crowded sterility of Ballif Hall's cafeteria to receive the definitive word on University life and function. But the tension of hustle-bustle was relieved by the friendliness and willingness to help with which most acclimated students greeted the "recruits."Of course, there were a few campus traditions to maintain. Freshmen prowled around in -green beanies and enthusiastically, though badly, sang the school song when stopped by upper classmen. Some overate at the Faculty Feed, where they had the distinct privilege of being served by their future teachers. Little did they know that these same teachers, in a few weeks time, would be serving assignments, without ketchup, instead of hotdogs and cokes. And then there was the crush in the Union Ballroom. Propaganda and advertising ran rampant as the freshmen hopped from exhibition to exhibition to decide with which organization they wished to work. All of the publications, committees, and organizations on campus displayed their objectives and successes to the new students, who were asked to join those groups necessary for the running of a university and for providing the leaders for the coming years.r ♦.Jit '#sS:fc 'Mj:L^;>.:i.-W Â¥* iiiiisi "i||;« * "*»:iHSSI;:'...................â- ............................................ .....; ' " â- *..... ••............ i |
