Show Utah TrackSPRING HOPES RESTED ON A FEW BIG POINT GETTERS.Coach Marv Hess's twenty-six man track squad had a rough time of it this year, coming out on the short end of the score in all of their encounters. The big problem seemed to be a lack of experienced lettermen in a squad which was mainly composed of sophomores and freshmen. A few lettermen, such as Gary Eyre, carried the load. And Eyre, a senior, will not be with the team next year. However, in individual events, some members of the team were big point getters. Jon Johnson, a freshman and a hope for next year, completed the year undefeated in the 440 yard run. Blaine Lindgren, another frosh, holds the intermountain AAU championship and the school high hurdle record of fourteen feet-three inches. Next year these two freshmen will be the teammates of other equally good track and field winners such as Nick Luke, freshman hurdler; Mel Ward, pole vaulter; and Mick Jones, shot putter.^1 mPim.Illi |
