Show Steve Bennett gained theupper hand in controlling the froshactivities for 1958-59.FRESHMENLate in September 1959, the freshmen came to the University. At first they seemed like nothing but a confused, excited mass of humanity; bedecked with green beanies, a symbol of their freshness. Their massive laughing presence was seen on the hillside whitewashing the "U"; their curious presence at the Activities Carnival discovering the innumberable facets of college life; and their confused presence moving nervously and unsurely through the tangled registration lines.Later, when these identifying caps disappeared their owners were still seen trudging from the Field-house and Annex parking lots with bigger and more bewildering books going to more difficult classes. They were seen participating in the student government, varied extracurricular activities, and in their spare time even falling in love. They got C's at first perhaps, and then some moved to the A and B category as the uncertainty was replaced with application, adjustment, and confidence.Through the rigors of change, the freshness of their enthusiasm and new ideas prevailed â€" injecting a new spark into the fading old campus life, and providing the assurity of continued University success.The first trio of girls who officiated within the classes were (left to right): Sue Stewart, secretary; Marian Daynes, treasurer; and Sandy Snow, vice president.'til*'*':" |
