The tall candelabra and big center piece of bright red holly, picked from the garde^were further enhanced by the dazzeling white tablecloth crocheted by Athena. What a joyous time for all of us, thought Penny, as she looked at her parents and sister and her love and pride knew no bounds. It was a long and liesurely dinner with everyone contributing to the conversation, adults and children alike. Afterwards everyone went into the living room to relax. "Penny, please play some Christmas carols and sing for us," said her plishments father. Jim's pride in both of his daughters' accom- was always evident so at family gatherings she sat down at Claudine's panic Because of the rolled occasion, her hair and had been up in rags by her mother the night before. Unlike Vicky,whosehair was naturally curly, Jenny's was straight and fine, but today the curls hung loosely on her shoulders, tied with a pale yellow ribbon matching the color of her dress. Her slim figure was complimented by the silk dress her mother had sewed. The skirt was ac-cordian pleated and the belt tied low on her waist. Her short socks were of the same color and f- black patent leather shoes sparkling new. Soon everyone joined in and the house rang with songs and laughter. later, while Athena and Maddie were in the kitchen, with the aunts, preparing to serve desert, the men remained in the living room discussing current politics. The younger children were outside playing and Vicky had wandered off with the older girls. Penny remained in the living room toying with the piano keys, her fingers running lightly and softly over the keyboard so as not to disturb the men's conversation. |
