Show - bk - She raised her eyes and as she looked around her, there was no question in her mind that she was back in time when Claudine lived at Gaven House. Everything was in exquisite taste. A crowd of dancers where whirling around the shining parquet floors of the living room and spilling into the foyer. In the background, the grand staircase glistened with tiny lights intertwined into the banister and the chandeliers glittered like a million stars. The ladies' gowns were a rainbow of colors as they glided to the rythmn of the waltz played by a string ensemble. The red velvet draperies complimented the golds and whites of the walls, casting a misty haze over everything, and the high ceilings enhanced the spaciousness of the rooms. The tables were laden with French cuisine and tempting sea food dishes which appeared to have been brought in from the San Francisco wharves that very afternoon. The sparkling French wines and liquors glistened in their crystal cut decantors. Masses of flowers were everywhere; on pedestals, framing the windows and doorways and on the dining tables, further "complimenting the delicately laced tablecloths. The exceptional grace of one couple caught Penny's eyes and she immediately recognized Claudine. At that moment her beauty was breathtaking. white Her pale blonde hair was a mass of ringlets caught up in a diadem of flowers and her eyes were as blue as the sky on a clear summer's day. The pale lavender dress she wore billowed around her in Crepe de Chine layers. Her only other adornment was a garland of the same flowers that began at one shoulder and continued down encircling her waist and falling into the folds of her dress that reached the floor. At this moment she whose was speaking to a tall, slender young man hair was almost as blonde as hers. His blue eyes and classical features emphasized his he wore , aristocratic bearing. The black velvet evening suit /with white satin shirt frilled at the collar and cuffs, seemed to further accent his ^anea*. He reminded Penny of a figure out of the French Renaissance Age. |
