She was tall and slim and her straight long blonde hair fell on her shoulders. Her blue eyes had a steady gaze that disguised her inquisitive nature. She was always studying people, trying to fathom their thoughts and analyzing each situation. As their father unlocked the enormous oak double front doors, Penny looked curiously at the bronze knockers. They were ancient Greek masks; one laughing and the other crying. A feeling of apprehension gripped her, but she shook it off in the excitement of the moment. The foyer extended well into the house, with a curved stairway set at the far end winding gracefully to the upper rooms. On either side of the entry hall were spacious rooms with magnificent chandeliers which, at one time must surely have glittered and sparkled at happy gatherings.
