Show - 32 - "What stories?" said Penny. "Oh, about the ghost that haunts the house! Although, I don't know of anyone who has seen her, I've always been curious. Have you encountered her?" Her small, inquisitive eyes observed them closely and her pursed lips barely moved as she spoke. Vicky quickly broke in before Penny could answer. "Oh, that's a lot of nonsense. You shouldn't believe all the rumors you hear!" Penny looked at hersisterinquiringly, but said nothing. As they walked out of the library, she turned to Vicky and said. "Now, why did you tell her that? You know that was a deliberate lie!" "Do you want the entire neighborhood to think ve^'re a family of eccentrics replied Vicky. Until we know more about the ghost of Gaven House we shouldn't broadcast the fact that we're living with one, no matter how beautiful she may be!" Penny smiled at her sister's logic. "Well, perhaps she was right. It would probably be best not to discuss Claudine with other people, at least not to strangers. Also, they had not mentioned the matter to their parents as yet. The subject was closed, for the girls were impatient to reach the theatre. Such a lovely afternoon, thought Penny, as they later walked out of the theatre into the afternoon sunlight. Vicky knew her sister would be walking on air for the next week or so. She would roam the rose garden singing the songs of the sweethearts and pour over her scrapbooks containing the pictures she so devotedly collected of her favorites. Tom was waiting for them and in a few moments they were at the railroad station. Jim Stahdish embraced his daughters warmly when he saw them. |
