Show - 167 - "I hope and pray that you'll soon find the peace you're looking for, Claudine." She said in a whisper. With the ghost trailing behind, the girls gingerly picked their way over the bridge. Chang Lin was standing on the other side waiting as he and had promised. In his hand was a lantern, Penny wondered if it was the same one he had used that fateful night many years ago. It cast feeble rays around them. When they crossed, he said to Penny in an angry tone of voice. "You were told to come alone with the ghost maiden." The accusation in his voice was thinly veiled. "Don't blame my sister, Mr. Chang Lin," broke in Vicky. "I wouldn't let her leave the house without me. If anything should happen to her, our parents would be heartbroken. What can I do to help you? More than anything, I too, want to see this mystery solved. None of us will ever have a moment's rest if we don't work together on this." . He looked intently at Vicky and seemed surprised at her words. Then slowly he nodded his head and said. "Come, all of you, follow me and be very quiet." In their anxiety to convince Chang Lin that Vicky would not be a detriment to them, no one heeded Claudine. She stood there, waving gently in. the night wind, her veil swirling and fanning out around her. She radiated fear and apprehension that the old Oriental would not acknowledge her presence and her hands moved softly in a pleading motion. Then he turned and looked straight at her and said. "Ghost Maiden, you and I have been at odds for these long years. I have felt that you betrayed my son, but now fate has decided, through the efforts of this young girl, to make me see the error of my Ways. If I have harmed you, I am sorry. Let us see if this night will vindicate you and help achieve your heart's desire. Come all of you, follow me." he repeated. "Turn off the light," he said to Penny and he blew out the lantern also. |
