Perhaps as a reminder of days gone by when he was more affluent or just because he could not afford a better place. "Did you ever ask him if he knew where Dirk had gone," asked Penny. "Yes, but Tom I remember him saying that we would be sorry for not giving in to his demands because what he knew would solve the mystery of Dirk's disappearance." added Maddie. "Lies, all lies." said Tom sternly. "He was and still is a very unscrupulous man and I simply will never trust him. This only lit the fires of curiousity in Penny. "But Maddie, Tom, suppose he does have some information that could help us find Dirk or at least give us a hint as to where he is now.
