Then when he went for a later appointment I was hurt because he didn't plan to take me and leave the children in the car while he looked. He was disgusted at my disappointment and went out angry, with me crying, the children quickly saying, "don't cry, Mama, dear." Being a wife is even harder than I ever dreamed it would be. I can't feel happy when Harold is away all the time except for sleeping and one or two meals a day. He honestly thinks I should make all allowances for him. But it's hard when everything comes before the children and me. I am not happy, and try as I may to hide my feelings, they show, and he thinks I'm "pugging," [trying to take advantage of him]. Afterward Mary Clifford, Ella Riter, and I looked at houses. When I came home to relieve Mrs. Boles, I found the house in something of a mess and the kids in a wild unmanageable state. Mrs. Boles had done her best, what with the ironing and all. I bundled the younguns into the car and went to get Harold. We looked at the houses and Harold seemed pleased. When it comes right down to it, though, he never really likes anything we see. We came home, I rushed supper and Judy's feeding. Harold helped by watering and then went back to work.
