Show -- FOUR Renascence at the University I Madelyn yearned Uponattend Wellesley College,High, but her mother graduating from LDS said she concerned that Wellesley did not feature a major in Home Economics. Instead, Madelyn enrolled at the University of Utah, with many of her friends, attending from 1919 to 1923. As with to was many state universities at the time, religious influence permeated scholarly training at the University of Utah. The program for students is suggested in a published statement of Lucy M. women Van Cott, Dean of Women from 1908 to 1931: The home is the center of civilization. The goal of the col lege girl should be to attain the highest position of woman, that of homemaker, wife and mother. A practical knowledge of the preparation and relative value of foods, the making and proper use of clothing, the furnishing and building of a house, the care and feeding of children, are necessary quali fications. The curriculum of the modern university permits the girl to equip herself with this necessary training. The wel fare of the race depends upon her wisdom in choosing the 53 |
