Taste the sweetness of Service ... Feel Joy .... The three ranks of membership were Builder in the Hive, Gatherer of the Honey, and Keeper of the Bees. There had been seven fields of activity in Camp Fire Girls. There were nine sim ilar fields in the Bee Hives: by pursuing these goals the girls would "feel joy." To be a Builder in the Hive, a girl was expect ed to meet certain standards that were similar to the Camp Fire program. She must take at least one-half hour daily exercise out-of-doors: sleep out-of-doors or with wide open windows; for Madelyn's age (14) must retire at 9 pm and arise at 6 am five days of each week for two consecutive months; know the vertical line test for correct posture of the body; refrain on from candy, chewing gum, sundaes, sodas, and commercially manufactured beverages between meals for at last two months; know the proper use of hot and cold baths, the care of hands, teeth, cleanliness of the hair and its appropriate dressing; keep her own clothing in repair for at least two months, doing the mending on time and not waiting until she is ready to wear it; set a table tastefully, having dishes clean and properly arranged, with clean linen and some simple, seasonable deco ration; every day she must do at least one good turn, quietly |
