Show 109 The travois poles still lay where Josh had cut them loose the day before. Once more he knelt by Chinook to tie the poles onto thejiog's harness. Dolefully the malamute watched them tie on the heavy burden, remembering the hard work he had been called to do the day before. That done, Josh stood outside the mine in the sunshine, gave a long look back inside the tunnel, and blew a kiss toward it. "Goodbye, Lucky Lady mine-I hope I never see you again!" Cap laughed, and they bounced down the rocky path that led from the mine. A half mile later they had reached the canyon bottom, feeling frisky and excited as they headed down into the trees. The boys almost skipped along, so elated were they at their good fortune. That is, until Cap suddenly stopped and pointed through the cottonwoods. Where Cap pointed, Josh could make out a small patch of blue there among the gray of the tree trunks and the yellowing leaves. Once more Josh felt the same old sensation-the prickling sensation of the hair on his neck. "Why, it's their Blazer," Josh said with a gaso. •Yeah. When they took the gold, they must've doubled back here, hid their car, an' gone up on the mountain to meet the helicoDter." Josh licked his lips and looked longingly down the trail toward town.
