Show 36-A door bright and early the next day looking for Chinook. And once in the dog pound, Chinook would never get out again, Josh was sure. So he reminded himself they didn't have a choice, and he slogged along, the heavy pack bumping against his rump and the straps paining his shoulders. Near the center of town, deserted now that it was nearly midnight, an astonishing thing happened. As they were trudging past the city center, a bright flash of light erupted from inside the building, followed by a "WH0OSH-B00CMMM!!" The explosion shattered a window on the side of the building, sprinkling glass across the lawn. Jerking to a stop, the boys blinked in surprise. Chinook strained against his rope, trying to get away from there, but Josh held on. "What happened?" Cap gasped. Josh glanced around desperately, searching for the police cars that were usually there guarding the gold. Only the blue Blazer that belonged to the two Pinkerton detectives was parked at the side of the building. "I dunno," Josh cried, "but I think we better get out of here!" They ran then. As they looked back Josh saw two men-one of them carrying something heavy-rush from the building and pile into the Blazer. He recognized the long-legged detective named Bixby and the stout form of Detective Rollins. Intrigued, the boys stopped and turned. They heard the sound of the Blazer roaring into life.
