A We had rain storms that brought down flood waters pretty nigh the year around, every once in a while. The years would be different, but the floods you would notice doing the damage would be in the fall when the water was low, you would notice a flood come in. In high water a flood came in, you couldn't tell the difference. When the river was very low, along in September, was the worst ones I remember noticing. I remember one year, went down the river after some rails. I had a boat, thirty- foot boat, and four men with me -- five men with me, and it was raining when we left. We came up the river that day, had about ten miles to make. We made about seven of them that day, and the river raised eleven feet in ten hours. That was in September, latter part of September. Q Were you going up or down stream? A I was going up. We got up to Elbow bar, left the boat and waled up, and the boys brought a small boat over and got up. Got so high we couldn't navigate.
