Q Have you ever used a boat to go up and down stream? A No sir. Q As a boy, did you ever go swimming in the San Juan river? A Yes sir. Q At what point? A At Bluff, and at Mexican Hat, both. Q The point where you went swimming as a boy, was it above or below Bluff? A Well, both; I swam, I guess, for several miles both ways. Q Tell me, please, about the depth of the water that you found there in and about Bluff when you have been in there swimming. A Well, it varied in different seasons of the year; sometimes when the river was high we never attempted to go in swimming. Other times, in the summer, it got real low. Q When you say real low, how low do you mean? A Well, I took a bunch of bucks across the river one time for the Indians to herd for me. I had a pair of roding boots on. Didn't go over my boots when I took the bucks across. Q That is, by bucks you mean sheep? |
