Show 5299 Chaffin- D 3310 was over, -- it must have been two weeks. The main part of the flood subsided in four or five days, but it lasted quite a long while. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Did I understand you to say you went down river with a thirty- foot boat for some rails? A Yes, twenty- five or thirty foot boat. Q What kind of rails? A T rails, mining rails, steel rails, small mine rails. Q Where were you going to get there? A Off the bar, the Little Giant, down below Hall's crossing, bring them up to the Moquie bar. I brought them rails up the lower end of Elbow bar and left them there until the river went down, and took a horse across and pulled them up over the shall on rapids there. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Between the time you first went in there in 1908 did you ever walk across the Colorado river at any point? A Yes sir. Q At what points? A During the time I was in there I have walked across the Colorado river; I have waded at the Shock bar; I have waded at Lake Canyon, and I have waded down the river below the San Juan, a certain place there, I don't just remember the name of the place. |
