Within the framework of the Lambda Delt program were opportunities for growth in fellowship, leadership, intellectuality, cultural life, and spirituality. Although the organization was sponsored by the LDS Church, membership was open to any University student. With the addition of Gamma, a new women's chapter, a total of twelve chapters held weekly meetings Tuesday through Friday. Included in the chapter programs were date parties, special speakers, pledge banquets, and early-morning sneaks. On an interchapter basis the year's social events began with the Fall Roundup. A Christmas caroling party and a formal dance winter quarter helped round out the schedule. Highlight of the year was the election banquet held during spring quarter. Each chapter dressed in costume and throughout the dinner serenaded the other chapters with traditional songs. Climaxing the evening was the announcement of each chapter's newly elected officers for the coming year. With service as an overall purpose, Lambda Delt members put on weekly programs at the Primary Children's Hospital and worked together to clean out Memory Grove. Other service projects ranged from collecting books for the Detention Home to the I.C. Sub for Santa. Spirituality was furthered by monthly worship services which combined musical numbers and spoken words to create a worshipful mood. President Nathan Tanner spoke at an interchapter fireside. Lambda Delt also took part in campus activities. Their float won first place in the Homecoming Parade. |
