Show LAWPreparing students for a role in legal practice and also an active participation in community affairs was the aim of the College of Law. Senior students were required to participate in a Practice Court program, which was conducted exactly like a real court, in which they were responsible for arguing actual cases, just as they would be under actual procedural rules according to the Utah laws.Because the College of Medicine feels that medical men should be men of culture and broad intelligence as well as specialists, all students were required to complete a general education program before going into actual medical work. The highlight of the medical college was the building of the new Medical Center on campus, which housed not only classrooms and laboratories for training the students, but also an actual hospital where they could gain experience in field work. Learning was based around not only the physical aspects of medicine, but also around the needs of each patient as an individual.A difficult operation is skillfully conducted.ENGINEERINGThe Nuclear Reactor Laboratory, analog computer and Utah Engineering Experiment Station were some of the facilities administered under the direction of the College of Engineering to aid students in their experience in various engineering fields. Research was emphasized as a service to Utah's industries and also as a way to provide a more challenging atmosphere in which to work.Engineering students experiment with the oscilloscope.76 |
