Show COACHESRay Nagel capped his seventh year at Utah as head football coach by being named the Western Athletic Conference's Coach of the Year. He racked up an impressive 9-2 record, best at Utah since 1948. He grabbed a share of the Western Athletic Conference title, and led the Redskins to a 34-6 Liberty Bowl triumph over West Virginia in history's first indoor bowl game. It was Nagel's best season at Utah and brought his seven year record to 39-32-1. Nagel developed one of the WAC's best defenses which held eleven foes to six points each. His speedy, versatile offense averaged 21 points per contest. Nagel graduated from UCLA in 1960 and has coached at UCLA, Oklahoma and with the professional St. Louis Cards before coming to Utah in 1958.
