Mitchell Melich participates in the election debates.ARTIST AND SPEAKER SERIESArtist and Speaker committee began an eventful year by sponsoring political debates in the fall. Politicians vying for state offices voiced their varied opinions on the coming election. The performance of the folk-singers Bud and Travis was sponsored in conjunction with the Homecoming committee. In cooperation with the Civic Music Committee, the Artist and Speaker Series brought such accomplished musicians to the University as Byron Janis and the singers of the Bach Aria. In March, Vance Packard, author of the popular books Hidden Persuaders and Status Seekers, spoke. Dr. Hobart Mowrer, author of Sin and Psychiatry, aired his views on the subject, and in April, the noted historian and aid of former President Kennedy, Dr. Arthur Schlesinger, spoke to University students, and completed a successful year of the Artist and Speaker Series.Mike Goldwater gives a pre-election address.197 |
