Show The freshman basketball team consisted of: (row 1) Mike Dunlap, Walt Bills, Louie Strike, Gary Kraus, Gene Lake, Randy MacKay, Brent Smith, Robbie Douglas (row 2) Doug Moon, assistant coach, Dave Pond, Gene Rodgers, Brent Reed, Steve Cotterell, Alex Churchich, Robert Williams, Merv Jackson and Jerry Pimm, coach.FRESHMANBASKETBALLTEAMUtah had reason to be proud of their freshman basketball team this year. Under the supervision of Jerry Pimm and his assistant, Doug Moon, the freshman squad sported a 12 to 1 record for the season. The only game lost during the season was to Mesa College by a 91-90 score. The last basket was made as the gun sounded. Frosh victories included wins over: Carbon College, 93-82 and 106-93; Ricks College, 89-77; Dugway, 110-71; Utah State Frosh, 102-76, 106-93 and 79-70; Idaho State Frosh, 87-78 and 91-85; Brigham Young Frosh, 76-65 and 114-101; and Snow College 90-76. The enthusiasm, skill, and coordination shown by the freshman hoopsters gave evidence of a bright future for the Utes. Top freshman scorers included Mervin Jackson who averaged 22 points per game and Gene Lake with a 20 point per game average.Future Ute assets, freshmen hoopsters, demonstrate their ability.251 |
