Roy Jefferson - best in the defensive secondary. Ray Nagel - best in the WAC. For Utah it was the best football season in 17 years. Roy Jefferson, hailed by coach of the year Ray Nagel as "the best all-around player," was named to all-American first teams by Sporting News and Time Magazine. He was one of the conference's leading scorers, most accurate field goal and conversion booters, best pass catchers and most ruthless defensive aces. Jefferson was named to three post season all-star games but had to miss two of them because of a back injury suffered in the Liberty Bowl. Joining the big end on the all WAC team were fullback Allan Jacobs, halfback Ron Coleman, and lineman Mel Carpenter at tackle. Five Utes were dubbed to the academic all-conference team. Carpenter also grabbed the Red Blaik award as one of the nation's top eleven scholastic athletes and joined Ernest "Pokey" Allen, Richard Groth, John Stipech and John McQuaide on the brain squad. Allen was dubbed back of the game while Coleman grabbed outstanding player award for their performances in the Liberty Bowl.Jim JensonQuarterbackGreg Kent TackleBob KraabelTackle Tom KokalGuardBob LarsonWingbackJim LettigEndC.
