Show Sporting a 10 win, 4 loss, 1 tie record, 1965 was one of the most successful campaigns for the Ute grapplers in the school's history. Highlights of the season were strong wins over Brigham Young University and Arizona State University. Standouts for Utes were George Shaeffer, who had a 13-2 record for the season in the 130 pound class, and Carl Monahan in the 157 pound class with an 8-5-1 dual meet record. Coach Marv Hess who graduated from the University in 1950 has coached since his graduation and has brought the Utes out of the doldrums in wrestling. The Utes have never placed lower than third in a conference meet.WRESTLINGWrestling team members were: (Row 1) Bill Ence, John Tompson, Jack Mitchell, Ray Compos, Steve Olson, Bob Brown (row 2) Marv Hess, coach, Marvin Kizerian, Reiner Prawitt, Dennis Mangrum, Max Reese, Dick Weber and Carl Monahan.Utes scramble for the advantageSomeone has to be on the bottom.252 |
