Show GRADUATE SCHOOLFurthering of education beyond the bachelor's degree was offered by the Graduate School. Courses leading to the Master's Degree and the Doctorate let students develop their intellectual skills to the utmost as they pushed on to new depths of knowledge.Individual study is an important part of graduate school.CONTINUING EDUCATIONThe Division of Continuing Education was used to extend the facilities of the University throughout the state. Classes were conducted in the afternoons and evenings in regular classrooms, as well as through television courses and a home study program. The Division also sponsored cultural programs, lectures, University Travel Club, and the Bureau of Community Development.The Speed Reading Laboratory improves students' skills.SOCIAL WORKStudents who were interested in helping better the welfare of others in the community were found in the Graduate School of Social Work. Hundreds of hours of field work, in which the students were assigned to work on actual cases in addition to classroom study, helped equip students with the insight and experience necessary for success in their profession.Counselling is given in various areas.MINES AND MINERALSThe College of Mines and Mineral Industries was created for the purpose of bringing all courses of instruction and facilities dealing with mineral technologies into one agency to assist in building the mining industry of Utah. As such, the college was responsible for research into increasingly better methods, and directed the Utah Geological and Mineralogical Survey.The geological eras become the object of study.75 |
