Show Utah repeated the two previous past performances in again trimming the Farmers and Cougers. The Farmers were defeated in four matches out of five. Gallacher and Blevins were defeated in a close match by Johnson and Darley, for the lone victory registered by the northerners. Irvine and Goodell easily defeated Thomas and Parkinson in the other doubles match. Lindon Crone, Jack Irivine and Mel Gallacher took the opposition into camp in the singles matches. In the second meeting with the Cougars, the Utes were ruled slight favorites by virtue of the past victories that were registered. The triumph this time was indeed more decisive than the others had been, for instead of merely winning three out of the five matches, the locals annexed four out of the five matches. Captain Goodell played his last game for Utah, and he leaves the school this spring with the satisfaction of having contributed in a large measure to a state championship for the state school. Mel Gallacher, also played his last contest for the Utes, has enjoyed the same satisfaction. These two men have been mainstays on the tennis team for four years, and it is to their glory that they wound up their careers with a championship. Blevins, Captain Goodell, Irvine, and Gallacher represented Utah in the conference battles, and from their work in the state engagements, we can expect great things from them. 7L o u n d U p Humbert |
