Show 1921 TONIAH University Publications Council Levi Edgar Young Fred J. Pack Ray Kirkland Paul Kimball Stanley Sharp Faculty Representative and Chairman Faculty Representative Student Member . Student Member Student Member The duties of the Publications Council include the administration of the affairs of all the publications, Utah Chronicle, Utonian, Humbug, and Pen. Editors and business managers of these productions are selected after consideration is given their applications by this body. In addition, all the financial disbursements are checked by this organization, although this is chiefly in the hands of the bursar of the institution. Its purpose is to act as an intermediary between the interests of the faculty and the students; thus three members of the student body and two members of the afculty are chosen at the annual elections. It is unfortunate that often men are chosen because of their popularity and not because they are competent to serve in this capacity. This accounts in some measure for a great many inconsistant things that are committed which are a decided detriment to the progress of the publications of the school. At the initial gathering of the Utah Press Club, that organization determined to use its influence in securing nominees who are competent, and who through experience have gained a knowledge of the needs of the various publications. The result of this determination has not yet been recognized, but certainly it is a move in the right direction. The policy of the council the past two years has been one of restriction, and this coupled with the peculiar attitude assumed by certain powers that be-has not in the least bettered the existing condition. The council is to be congratulated for the good that it has done in the past, and it is the desire of those concerned that succeeding members will not only recognize the good work already done, but extend their efforts toward bettering existing conditions. o u u m e r ^ |
