Show 1921 <-> UTONIAH GENE LIVINGSTON Halfback Reports from Coast towns, after the Redskins had met the Trojans, declared that Gene Livingston was one of the best little halfbacks that had ever graced the gridiron, and that he was capable of making any eleven in the west. This only comes as an aftermath to what was already established in the minds of the Utah fans. Gene began his grid career at the East High School, and while yet a youngster displayed remarkable ability, for he was instrumental in bringing many a triumph to that school. Then after having performed a successful service in the missionary field, he returned to Utah, and once again donned the cleats. For three years he has been a shining light in the backfield and many times he has thrilled Utah's boosters with his clever open field, running, and brought them to their feet by virtue of his wonderful work. Gene not only has received the plaudits of Utah followers, but he has been accorded honors wherever he has appeared. It is doubtful whether Utah shall ever again have at its helm one so genuinely popular as Gene Livingston. This estimation is the result of his willingness to co-operate with his fellow players, and the creditable manner in which he led the Utes the past season. Although the extent of honors accorded him by conference critics culminated in his selection on the second all-conference eleven, he has meant more to Utah than this record indicates, and he will be long remembered for his real worth. 163 7L, o u n d Up 71 u m b e r |
