Will she make the succeeding payments, and ultimately the contribution, that will insure the establishment of the much advertised Union Building? Like the greatly longed for united and concentrated spirit that is the decry of the students, the Union Building, which is the outward manifestation of that spirit, is still in the abstract. Time will determine the reality of both. The past year witnessed a continuation of the good work that was so nobly begun when the drive was first inaugurated. A contest was arranged between the various organizations on the campus, with valuable prizes attached. It mattered little who won the prize, for after all it was an insignificant thing, but it was interesting to note the results, which in the main were very satisfactory and encouraging. The last campaign was merely another stepping-stone, that was successfully surmounted, in the onward move for a desirable end. There is a peculiar situation on the campus tending towards the destruction of_ the integrity of a real school spirit. Many have attempted to explain the unusual condition that exists, but few have advanced a satisfactory solution for the problem. However, it has been observed that a Union Building will alleviate the present unsatisfactory condition, and ultimately provide the remedy. It is for this purpose that earnest hearts are striving to raise the funds which will produce this edifice. It now remains for each individual student to contribute his share to the erection of a monument to school spirit,-the creation of something that is tangible and real. If the Union Building will bring the desired end, all should cast away their selfish attitude for once, and help in a small way to make this thing possible. Utah has completely fulfilled her initial obligation, and has pledged her full support to what the future might demand. It will take Utah spirit to obtain a Union Building. It will take the collected and united efforts of the entire student body to put it over. There is a cry for a Utah, spirit! The answer is in a concentrated spirit, which is now exemplified in the efforts to make possible the erection of that edifice. A true school spirit is perennial. The results obtained in Union Bulding drives to come will determine whether or not Utah can display a genuine school spirit. 229 I i If 7t>.-fl u n d u m. |
