It is true that the foregoing is necessary in the production of a school paper, but if this were its only purpose then we might as well not have any paper, for much of the matter issued by the Univerisity authorities always goes to downtown newspapers first; so even that which is purported to be news is merely a review. It is our calculation that besides being a dope sheet a college newspaper should attempt to set forth the opinions and feelings of the student body; to foster and develop school spirit; and to be a common organ for all University interests. Certainly the Utah Chronicle is a real representative of all the interests of the A. S. U. U., and has included in its pages something more than a chronilogical resume of events. Under the editorship of Robert Goodell and his associates, it has confined in its pages the integral excellence of all the features of a successful periodical. Every student body activity has been dealt with in a satisfactory manner. The judgements of the editors have always been fair and just. It is true that the policy has been more or less conservative, but when it has been found expedient and desirable, a marked progressive attitude has been displayed. The merits and failings of the situation at the University have been set forth without restraint. This is as it should be. Inasmuch as they have done well in the work it is only fair that we should compliment them upon the sluccess of their labors and participation in this mose important of school activities. 219 !' 1 1 7Co u n d U p m b |
