In the past, practically every Utonian has been built chiefly on conventional lines, all of the borders, titles and decorations being worked in scrolls etc. This year we have endeavored to get away from this and as one will readily notice, our entire theme is strictly free and radical in its difference. In presenting the Round-up number of the Utonian, we tied into the theme by staging a round-up of all the alumni who have graduated from the University of Utah, by featuring pictures run over separate tint blocks of each alumni president since the installation of an Alumni Association by Dr. John R. Park. This has required a great deal of research and hard work to secure the photographs of all of these people, many having moved away from the state and many who have departed from the "Herd". Our art theme was not the only reason for running pictures of these people. The primary reason being that the alumni of the University have not been appreciated in the past for the splendid foundation they laid for us of the present student body, and we are, in the pages of this book both by dedication and in entire motif, trying to show our appreciation for the efforts that have been put forth by students of the past in promoting for Utah a real college standing and basis or that which we are enjoying at the present time. In compiling the 1927 Utonian a great deal of difficulty has been met with during the year. Not only has the work been made more difficult by outside forces but also by forces which could have been such a help and which have been but a hindrance. Aside from this point we have done as best we could under the conditions and hope that the results appeal to the Students. ound Up 71 u m b e r i |
