Show i» 1 1921 OTM I Athletic Coaches Ike J. Armstrong Head Coach Ike J. Armstrong has just completed his first year as the head of Utah's athletic teams. He came to us from Drake last fall, where as one of the famous Bulldogs, he contributed much to their prestige. Then he acted as an assistant to the well known Ossie Solem for a period of two years, in which capacity he coached the second team in football, and directed the freshmen basketeers; and in addition much of the success of several Drake relays can be attributed to his efforts. He is considered as one of the most competent coaches in the business; and with his record at Drake as a testimony of his ability, he was persuaded to come out west and cast his lot with Utah. It is to his credit that he has fulfilled every single expectation, and in addition contributed many inoyations that have become firmly established in the athletic program of the University. Armstrong is a sincere student of athletics, and all those who have become associated with him in athletic work, respect his knowledge of sports, and admire his progressive policies, Utah is indeed fortunate in having one so really capable at the helm of its athletic program. :; BEN LINGENFELTER Asst. Coach With the advent of spring comes the announcement that Ben Lingenfelter has definitely decided to sever his connection with the University of Utah at the close of the present school year, after having successfully served in the capacity of assistant coach for the brief space of one year. Ben came to us last fall from Drake, along with Ike Armstrong. While at Drake, Ben was chosen on Walter Eckersal's all-western honor eleven, and in addition he held the best mark of the Missouri Valley Conference in the javelin. It is in these two departments of athletic endeavor, in which he himself excels, that he has contributed so much to the success of the athletic program the past year. He has been an invaluable asset in assisting Coach Armstrong to introduce the many inovations in the style of play that was a feature of the work of the Red-devils work last fall. Also, the results of his labors have been especially marked in the performances of the Ute tracksters, for while Ike was still with the hoop squad, he was giving personal instruction and attention to the young hopefuls of the spring sport. Ben possesses a most amiable personality; and his broad smile, and abounding enthusiasm that characterized his work, has won for him a host of admirers among those who have become associated with him in athletic work. •/'¦.;.. o u n d 71 u in b e r |
