Show Chlamydia (ICD-9=99.5, ICD-10=A55-A56) Compiled by Jennifer Ha 2000 Utah Incidence: 103 per 100,000 Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachoma-tis. A large majority of infected patients are asymptomatic. Women who do show signs of an infection generally experience a vaginal discharge, lower abdominal pain, and bleeding between menstrual periods. Men will generally experience a urethral discharge. If left untreated, chlamydia will produce serious complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, epididymitis, and infertility. Chlamydia is the most commonly reported sexually transmitted disease in the United States. From 1987 through 2000, the rate of chlamydia increased from 50.8 to 257.5. This dramatic increase reflects the growing success of prevalence monitoring and improved diagnostic tests. O 8 § 300 -I 250 -200 - « 100- co 50 -O 0 •Utah Table 27.
