Show Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrhosis (ICD-9 Code: 571; ICD 10: K70. K73-74) Compiled by Ryan Roberts 2000 Utah Liver Disease Deaths: 173 Despite slight annual fluctuations, chronic liver disease mortality rates in Utah have been generally declining. Since 1980, Utah has consistently had lower mortality rates than the U.S. Alcohol consumption has been linked to chronic liver disease, therefore, the lower alcohol consumption in Utah may partly account for the lower rate. However, this gap appears to be narrowing, and the death rates in Utah and the United States may be converging. Male rates are much higher than female rates and have not shown a significant declining trend. The likely explanation for this difference is a difference in alcohol consumption between males and females. Table 42.
