Show Self-Perceived Health Status Compiled by Dan Bergantz 2000 Utahans with Excellent Health: 25% An interesting assessment of a population's general health is to discover its own self-perceived health status. Self-perceived health status is a topic that is surveyed by the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention & Health Promotion and reported on the Center for Disease Control's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) website. Data on self-perceived health status is currently available for years 1995 through 2000. Overall, the data patterns for Utah and the U.S. are fairly comparable. Over 50 percent of individuals in both Utah and the U.S. reported either excellent or very good health. The "Very Good" category has consistently had the highest percentage of individuals for both Utah and the U.S. Specifically, for all six survey years, over 61 percent of individuals in Utah have reported either excellent or very good health. The U.S. data are just slightly lower in these categories for the same years. Interestingly, a higher percentage of individuals have reported more days of poor health in Utah than in the U.S. for these same years. Table 15.
