Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

He said the boat was too big and was never ( on oil ) the lake before the ditch was , put ( in ill ) there . The boat pulled the coal barges for the dredge and was used on ( Thief TIdef ) River to haul coal to the dredge . The lake was drained ( in iii ) 1910 . He never saw this boat on the lake , just ( small sniall ) rowboats or ( something soinething ) like ( that tliat ) . He saw Horgs boat ( on oil ) ( Tliief Tldef ) River , not ( on oil ) the lake . He never saw Gabrielson run a gasoline boat there . Joint ( Gtibrielson Gabrie7son ) came to the country ( in ill ) 1904 . He rowed up Thief River into ( Mud -Alud Alud ) Lake . The lake was tapped in 1910 . In that year ( lie be ) made 2 or 3 trips ( in ill ) the launch ( from froni ) Thief River to Grygla ( in ill ) the spring of the year , and then the water went down and he could not go any more . ( When NAlliell ) he started out there was so much water in that part of the country that he did not stop for ( an3rthing anYtbing ) . It was ( not ilot ) ( necessary iiecessary ) to attempt to follow the channel . Chris ( Norbech Norbeck ) came up there ( in ill ) 1903 . He saw Mud Lake from 1904 to 1910 , ( when -when when ) it was drained . There was always a little more water in ( tlie the ) ( spring sprilig ) of the year . He used to cross ( tlie t1le ) lake often ( in ill ) a boat . He ( went weilt ) down Mud River crossed the north , side of the lake into Thief River and went down Thief River . The boat was rowed and poled in places and ( other otber ) places it was necessary to get out and ( pnll pull ) it over the shallows . ( William Wi7liam ) J . LaBree has lived at Thief River Falls for 40 years . In 1893 or 1894 he visited the ( lake lahe ) ; found plenty of water . It was a high year . ( He I-Ie IIe ) took a ( flat-bottom flatbottom ) boat from Thief River to Holt and went across the lake .
