Show 50celitsperlOOpouiids . 160 Tbatallowed ( 1.25perIOO 125perIOO ) pounds for the 18 miles of ( water -water water ) transportation . The barge cost ( approximately approvimately ) 7,000 . Later there was a readjustment of the rates of transportation to oil wells farther down the river . The total amount of tonnage hauled ( hoth both ) ways approximated 4,000 tons , and the total revenues ( received receive ) by the Moab Garage Company was about 40,000 . ( Vol . 6 971 ) , p . . The operation of the boat was almost under the exclusive jurisdiction of the witness ( Virgil Virgi-I VirgiI ) ( Bald Bald- Bald ) win . ( Vol . 6 , R . 1155 . ) The boat consumed ( ap- ap ) proximately 5 gallons of gasoline per hour . ( Vol . 67 R . 1165 . ) The operation of the barge was ( at- at ) tended by many difficulties on account of the ( con- con ) ( stant staut ) rearrangement of sand bars ( R . 1166 ) , and this was especially true when no trips had been made for several days . When this occurred it was difficult to operate the boat without getting on the , sand bars . ( R . 1166 . ) The boat was easier to ( op- op ) erate downstream than it was up , but on the ( down down- down ) ¬ stream trip sand bars were encountered and it took much longer to get off than it did ( on oin ) the upstream trip . ( R . 1168 . ) Going downstream it ( was vas ) ( pos- pos ) sible to make approximate speed of 8 miles per hour ; coming upstream ( approximately appToximately ) 3 miles per hour . ( R . 1169 . ) Sand bars were encountered on approximately 75 per cent of the trips . ( ( E R ) . 1170 . ) The principal points where the barge encountered difficulty are shown at pages 1172 et seq . The barge was equipped with a capstan and a ( 500-foot 500foot ) |
