Testimony of both Dent and Hoyt showed that in ( silt-laden siltladen ) rivers , such as the Colorado , Green , and San Juan , bars ( -or or ) shoals would form in straight stretches between the bends , across which there might be ( no lio ) channel . That this is true of the rivers in question ( was ivas ) amply ( shown -shown shown ) by many competent witnesses . Dent ( Yol . 7 , page ( 1256 L256 ) ) noted frequent ( ground ground- ground ) ings a part of which were recorded as follows : Between North Wash and Lees Ferry in early ( September 'September September ) , 1929 , the boat he was using ran ( smoothly -smoothly smoothly ) where depths were 1Y2 feet ( and aucl ) greater . and dragged at lower ( depths-1341 depths1341 ) 4 , 126 , 124 , 108V2 , . 46y4 , 36 . ( San Scm ) Juan River near Bluff ( -Oil Oil ) Plate ( 4 1 ) ( , . ) Exhibit ( 82-A 82A ) , it is shown that the mean depth at the gaging ( station -station station ) varies from less than 1 foot when the ( dis- dis ) ( charge -charge charge ) is about 300 ( second-feet secondfeet ) or less to between 10 ( and aiad ) 11 feet with flood flows of 20,000 ( second-feet secondfeet ) . As shown on Plate 9 of Exhibit ( 82-A 82A ) the mean ( depth -depth depth ) is less than 2 feet on the average of 165 days in each year . |
