Show Utah Population by District and County Compiled by Dan Bergantz 2001 Wasatch Front Population: 1,415,419 Utah has both urban and rural regions. Its main urban population, comprising 76% of the state's total population, lies within only four counties along the Wasatch Front: Salt Lake, Utah, Weber, and Davis. The rural portion of the state comprises the remaining 25 counties and covers approximately 96% of the state s landmass. The strong contrast of these demographic regions creates a challenge for Utah's healthcare providers in rendering the proper services to all the people of the state. Rural shortages in the clinician workforce are especially difficult to quantify due to the low population density. Some rural communities may have an adequate supply of primary care clinicians, while others are in critical need. Although the Wasatch Front population has increased by a greater number than any other district since 1990, Figure 4 shows that the Mountainland and Southwestern districts have experienced the greatest percent in-creases in population within the state. The Southwestern district has experienced a 76% increase in population. Since it is considered a rural district, this increase causes concern over the adequacy of the healthcare supply in this region of the state. Table 5.
