Hurlimann was trained in Zurich, worked in Bern in 1824, and, between 1826 and 1829, in Neuchatel. He then traveled to Paris, where he settled permanently. Hurlimann was an outstanding aquatint etcher, working in the style of Franz Hegi, and produced numerous views of cities, historical tableaus.and other genre subjects.
