Show Principle #15- Viable Neighborhoods Traditional community planning concepts (elementary schools, mixed use zoning, villaqe/community design, community policing, etc.) should be utilized to maintain or reestablish viable neighborhoods so existing residents have less impetus to migrate to new development and new residents are attracted. Principle #16- High Density/Mixed Use To maximize open space preservation, existing urbanized areas should be enhanced by taking advantage of the existing infrastructure and services and encouraging development of a higher density mixed use in appropriate areas as a priority over development in rural areas. TRANSPORTATION AND OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE Principle #17- Transportation Network The regional transportation priority will be the enhancement and preservation of the existing road network, public transit and non-motorized modes of transportation, rather than the expansion of the road network in rural areas. Principle #18- Infrastructure Expansion and Replacement Infrastructure expansion and replacement will follow the preferred regional vision with clear urban service and rural service areas. Principle #19- Other Public Facilities, Museums, Schools Other public facilities (schools, police and fire stations, etc.) should be planned with an emphasis on partnerships between jurisdictions for the delivery of services to promote the preferred regional vision. Principle #20- Emergency Management & Hazard Mitigation Appropriate plans for disaster preparedness and emergency management will be developed at the local level while keeping in mind that the preferred regional vision will strive to keep people and public facilities out of harm's way. 2-75 |
