So, we worked there until September, and lay us off, and were layed off in September, and then we both started to work at Garfield Smelter, American Refining and Smelter Company, and we worked there a long time, many years I worked there, I worked till about 1929. I quit there and started to work in Salt Lake with the streetcar company, Utah Traction Company, Transit Company. I worked there until the depression came. Started in 1931-1932, and we were rustling around trying to make a living, and we did make it. I had a big family. my children were going to school. At that time I had 5 girls in school ... in high school, West High, Jordan Junior High ... all those schools my kids went. Franklin School, there is where they started. It used to be here in Second South, Franklin used to be there. And we have been here since, and then the Depression years were hard for us, we didn't have no unemployment insurance, we didn't have no Social Security, there were no Welfare in the state, the only help we get was very little, was the Church, the LOS Church, but very little, they wasn't prepare, nobody was prepare in the state, the nation, and the church weren' prepare to take, to meet these conditions, so it went the Depression. . . to 1936, it was around that year, when |
